02/19/2007 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New York Rangers left wing Brendan Shanahan is out of the hospital and resting at home, one day after an accidental on-ice hit landed him in a local hospital overnight.
The veteran forward collided with the Flyers' Mike Knuble with 12:33 left in the third period of the Rangers' 5-3 loss to Philly, was knocked unconscious, and laid on the ice for several minutes before being attended to by team trainers.
Shanahan was removed from the ice immobilized on a stretcher, and taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he underwent tests for a concussion. Though no update was provided on his condition following Sunday's game, the veteran forward was apparently awake and alert and had movement in all of his body parts when he arrived at the hospital, and both X-rays and a CT scan were negative.
He left St. Vincent's on Sunday morning and visited his teammates prior to the Rangers' 2-1 victory over Chicago at Madison Square Garden. According to team sources, Shanahan was walking unaided but looked pale.
"They're (Rangers medical staff) going to give him five days of rest, then will meet with him again to see where he is, and determine if he can go for a bike ride or a little spin on the ice just to determine what type of condition he is in," said Rangers head coach Tom Renney.
As of Saturday's contest, Shanahan led the Rangers with 28 goals and was fourth on the club in points with 54.
